On the 9th of November, 1989, a few months after the incident, the Berlin wall falls. The Soviet Union cannot stop the deteriation of the state and ultimately unravels in 1991.

Despite the unrest within the Soviet Union, a few days of the fall East-Germany, the Soviet Union sends roughly 20.000.000 BEF (600.000 euros) to the Belgian victims as a reimbursement for the damages it caused.
