KOLOBRZEG

4th of July, 1989. Pilot Colonel Nikolai Skuridin climbs into his MiG-23M. He is a pilot with more than 20 years of experience over a different number of aircraft. The aircraft is loaded with 200 cannon rounds and topped off with fuel. The autopilot is turned, as is standard procedure.

Upon taking off, the aircraft shudders until suddenly it seems that the engine has shut itself off and because of the low altitude of the aircraft, he has no other choice than to bail out. In a last attempt, he turns the aircraft toward the Baltic sea and bails out. However, unbeknown to everyone, the engine ignites again and the aircraft starts to climb. The autopilot sends the aircraft on a preindicated course towards the west.
